Origin

The idea of creating ALFAn was born in Mexico DF in April, 2006, when Maite Ezcurdia proposed it to Olbeth Hansberg, Guillermo Hurtado and Carlos Pereda, from the Instituto de Investigaciones Filosóficas-UNAM and to Sílvio Pinto, from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Iztapalapa. Afterwards, philosophers from Brazil (Marco Ruffino, Paulo Faria and André Leclerc) and from Argentina (Alberto Moretti, Eleonora Orlando and Diana Pérez) became interested in the idea of the association as well as philosophers from Costa Rica, Chile, Colombia and Uruguay.

First Meeting

The first ALFAn meeting took place on April 9, 2007, during the XXIII Simposio Internacional de Filosofía del Instituto de Investigaciones Filosóficas-UNAM which also celebrated the 40th anniversary of Crítica, a Latin American philosophy journal.

2nd Meeting

The second ALFAn meeting was the I ALFAn Conference (α1), which took place on April 13 -16, 2010, in Mérida, México, at the Centro Peninsular de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales-UNAM.

3rd Meeting

The II ALFAn Conference (α1) took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on August 21-24, 2012.
